|The Junior section offers coaching to all youngsters from the age of 10 years upwards who wish to try a different sport and also meet people of their own age. All coaches and helpers have been checked under the Disclosure & Barring Legislation.(CRB).
We meet each Sunday morning from 10 – 12 noon in the summer season, and on a Sunday using our 6 indoor rinks from October 1st until the end of April when we can use either the 12 outdoor rinks during the summer or our indoor rinks if it is wet. In the winter season the time and day may be changed according to the Club’s National Competition commitments.
Our qualified coaches and their helpers provide a structured training programme which allows the young bowlers to develop at their own pace to learn bowling skills but more importantly to enjoy the game of bowls.
Juniors are encouraged to take part in club competitions with the seniors which has resulted in some of the older juniors actually winning competitions. In addition there are regular meetings – called ‘Academies’ – for under 18’s and under 25’s with other junior bowlers from all over Sussex, where all our juniors are encouraged to take part. We have also had club juniors represented in National Competitions.Juniors will quickly find out that lawn bowls is a game of skill and craft, just like golf, tennis and other ball games. Many youngsters who find other sports difficult, adapt very quickly to bowls and find singles, pairs, triples and 4’s ideal, after all it is also a team sport as well as many other sports.
We have often heard the comment ‘’I am too young to start playing bowls, I’m not retired yet !! Don’t you believe it. Bowls now have professionals and we think many of our national junior bowlers will become future professional bowlers in due course.
As a parent are you sporty ?. Why not join your youngsters and learn to play as well ! We have over 300 mixed members at Worthing Pavilion, 13 qualified coaches to help and assist to improve your game when required, a bar and restaurant facilities to relax in after a game, and we think, the best greens in the South–East of England.
